Week Ten/Conclusion

For my last week of the 90 minutes a week challenge I read a book "Jane Austen A Life Revealed" by Catherine Reef.  The brief description and my thoughts on the book are located on the book page.

This Week Ten post is my last and we were asked to reflect on this process.  I do understand the importance of practicing what we will ask of our students.

Pleasure reading can be enjoyable and time spent free from normal worry/thoughts.  What I did find was that by spending my time reading each night, it became a challenge to make sure that I read to my younger child.  We did read in bed together and he thought that was fun.

My family already visits our local library once a week so that experience was not new to me.  What I did learn is how hard it is to find an interesting book quickly and easily!  Just new to our library this month is the free rentals online - to a device - like an ereader.  It looks like there will be more books available.  So for Christmas this year I ordered a Nook tablet and will see how the family responds to reading books via this type technology.  My hope is that I can take more time to find a book.

Our textbook for this course recommends reading the first few pages of a book to see if the book is interesting.  I was able to use this tip later in the process (after introduced in the textbook).

Hopefully once school is completed I will be able to continue reading for pleasure on a regular basis.  It will be interesting to see how we like the Nook.
